Preventive and General Dentistry

General dentistry refers to the scope of dentistry that most families require to keep their teeth and gums healthy and beautiful. At Family Dental Group, the foundation of our practice philosophy is to promote excellent oral health in our community through preventive and restorative dentistry.

When patients invest in their preventive care, they can often avoid many of the common conditions that cause tooth loss and disease.

Active Maintenance Programme

When patients generally have healthy teeth and gums, active maintenance visits will help keep them that way.

  • Routine check-ups and cleans
  • Diagnostic x-rays
  • Fluoride treatments and dental sealants

Our goal is to fill our practice with patients who have reached this milestone of care with no outstanding dental conditions and excellent oral health and wellness.

Smile-Saving General Dentistry

When decay, broken teeth, gum disease, infection or tooth loss occurs, general dentistry provides the solutions patients need to regain their oral health, ability to chew comfortably and the confidence that comes with a healthy smile.

  • Periodontal (gum) disease treatment
  • Root canal treatment
  • Tooth-coloured restorations

Tooth-coloured restorations repair and protect teeth that have sustained damage from fracture, trauma or decay, as well as to cosmetically improve the appearance of the teeth.

Composite fillings – Unlike their metal amalgam counterparts, composite fillings match the existing tooth and blend in for a natural look.

Dental bonding – Bonding uses a tooth-coloured filling material to repair small flaws in teeth by adding to the existing tooth structure. Bonding fixes small chips and gaps and reshapes irregular looking teeth.

Dental crowns – Crowns cover the entire tooth, reinforcing its strength, altering the shape and rebuilding it after wear. We use same-day CEREC crowns in both our New Lambton and Swansea dental clinic locations to repair and improve teeth in a single appointment.

Veneers – Tooth veneers are available in both composite bonded and ceramic options, both of which our dentists skilfully design and deliver in our dental clinics. We also offer lab-created porcelain veneers, which require the use of our local dental lab technicians. Veneers can completely change the appearance of a single tooth or give you a brand new smile.

Inlays and onlays – Indirect fillings, called inlays and onlays, provide increased protection over composite resin fillings. We use computer-aided CEREC technology to design aesthetic and durable indirect fillings.

Missing Tooth Solutions

Replacing missing teeth will improve chewing, speaking and oral health function. Having a complete smile may also improve self-confidence by eliminating a gappy smile. Dental implants, fixed bridges, dentures and partial dentures all offer reliable methods for replacing your missing teeth.
